The MolinaCares Accord Grants $75,000 to Peninsula Community Health Services to Expand Mobile Mammography Access on the Kitsap Peninsula

BREMERTON, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The MolinaCares Accord, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Washington (“Molina”), presented a $75,000 grant to Peninsula Community Health Services (“PCHS”) to support deployment of the region’s first mobile mammography unit serving Kitsap, Mason, and rural Pierce counties.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Washington State, yet a third

of women are not receiving regular screenings, placing the state among the 10 lowest nationally for mammography screenings.

“Early detection in breast cancer is critical to improving outcomes,” said Jennifer Kreidler-Moss, CEO of Peninsula Community Health Services. “The five-year survival rate for breast cancer caught in its earlier, localized stages is over 99%. With support from MolinaCares, we are bringing mammography services directly to communities that otherwise face barriers to routine screening.”

Grant funding from MolinaCares will be used to recruit and fund the staff needed to operate the mobile mammography unit, including a mammography technician, medical assistant, and/or care coordinator, and driver. Additionally, funding will enable PCHS to obtain accreditation, licenses, and insurance for the unit as needed.

“At Molina, we see mobile care as a powerful tool to reach people who may have challenges accessing care in traditional clinic settings,” said Dr. Jay Fathi, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Washington. “Supporting PCHS in bringing mammography into the community is one way Molina is supporting women’s health and ensuring women in Washington have access to routine preventive care no matter where they live in the Evergreen State.”

Deployment of the mobile unit is anticipated in the fall of 2026.
