Month-long Redmond Lights Returns to Illuminate Downtown Park

Redmond, WA – The City of Redmond is once again presenting Redmond Lights as a free, month-long experience from Dec. 1, 2021 to Jan. 5, 2022, at Redmond’s Downtown Park. Adhering to current state and local health protocols, visitors can enjoy self-guided tours of art and light in a joyful celebration of Redmond’s diverse winter traditions.

Redmond Lights will illuminate Downtown Park with various lighting features,

including a new centerpiece art sculpture, thanks to generous contributions from presenting sponsors Microsoft, Amazon, and Redmond Town Center. Cleveland Street and 164th Ave NE will be lit to lead participants to shopping, dining, and more holiday activities at long-time Redmond Lights sponsor and partner, Redmond Town Center. Art installations are sponsored by Cascade Water Alliance, BECU, Puget Sound Energy, Sotheby’s Realty, and Sound Transit.

“Building on last year’s reimagined Redmond Lights, the event will provide an opportunity to celebrate our community and the diversity of our winter traditions,” said Mayor Angela Birney. “We are excited to see the joy throughout our community this holiday season and invite everyone to participate in the fun-filled festivities.”

The City invites visitors to pick up their exclusive 2021 Redmond Lights commemorative blinker at participating Official Blinker Stops and use the free smartphone app to take a self-guided tour of the installations. Businesses surrounding Downtown Park and Redmond Town Center are invited to become Official Blinker Stops, as well as participate in the business window decorating contest, sponsored by EvergreenHealth. Redmond residents will be invited to share their home light displays as a part of the Resident Lighting Contest, sponsored by Cirque du Soleil Alegria. In addition, a coloring contest sponsored by Redmond Town Center, will allow kids of all ages to get involved. Mailboxes will be available at Redmond Town Center to collect coloring contest entries, and winners for each age category will be announced in January.

The City invites everyone to visit Downtown Park and nearby businesses and asks that participants adhere to important safety measures to keep Redmond healthy and safe this winter. Please wear face coverings, maintain six feet of distance between families, and stay home if you are sick, regardless of vaccination status.
