RECALL - Citterio Italian-Style Salame Sticks due to potential Salmonella

Italian-Style Salame Sticks Recalled

Euro Foods (dba Citterio USA Corp) of Freeland, Pennsylvania is recalling approximately 119,091 pounds of salame stick products that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 4010” inside the USDA

mark of inspection.  The following products are subject to recall:

Product Description:
2-ounce packages of Citterio "Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks ALL NATURAL" products

Use/Freeze/Sell by Date:
Best by dates through January 23, 2022


Product Distribution
These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide, primarily in the eastern United States. A retail distribution list issued on November 18, 2021 indicated the recalled products were distributed to Trader Joe's locations nationwide. Trader Joe's has indicated the products were removed from sale and destroyed.

Associated Illnesses
There have been 31 cases of the outbreak strain of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:i:- linked to consumption of salami sticks. No cases have been reported in Washington at this time. 

Additional Information
California officials found Salmonella in two unopened packages of Citterio brand Premium Italian-Style Salame Sticks. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is being conducted to determine if the Salmonella in these products is the same as the outbreak strain. Local Health Jurisdictions in Washington are not being asked to participate in any formal recall verification activities at this time, but appropriate staff should be aware of the food recall.
