NEWBERG, Ore. - With two singles wins and another in doubles, Whitman College women's tennis player Angel Le advanced to the singles semifinal and the doubles championship match at the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championships held Sunday and hosted by George Fox University.
Le and Whitman Blues doubles partner Arianna Castellanos will play in the doubles final on Monday after wins in the quarterfinal and semifinal. They topped the pair of Wong and Forester from Linfield 8-2, then took down another Linfield tandem in Kern and Matsunaga, 8-4.
Le also excelled with two wins in the singles competition. Le dominated Wong 6-0, 6-0 in what was the first of two competitions between the two Northwest Conference foes, then advanced to the quarters where she took down another Wildcat opponent in Taryn Fujimori 7-5, 6-0.
Monday's singles slate features Le squaring off against Pacific's Sydnie Binder at 9:00 a.m. in one semifinal with the winner playing for the championship at 1:00 p.m. Le will look to close the day with a doubles title when she and Castellanos play the Pacific pair of Cassidy Binder and Sydnie Binder.
