Cats shut out by Bruins in Newberg



NEWBERG, Ore. – It was all George Fox on Sunday afternoon as the Bruins topped the Linfield women's soccer team, 2-0, at Austin Sports Complex.


 
The Bruins dominated the offensive attack with

22 shots and nine shots on goal with 14 of their shots coming in the second half. The Wildcats finished with four shots and one shot on goal.


 
Taylor Ho got things started for the Bruins with a 36th-minute unassisted goal. Rebecca Kozak followed with a goal of her own in the 55th, assisted by Maggie Phillips.


 
Sophomore defender Ellie Friedrichsen and freshman midfielder Emily Hyde accounted for all the 'Cats' shots with two apiece. One of Hyde's shots were on goal as she played the entire 90 minutes. Sophomore defender Lucy Kerr also played 90 minutes in the loss.
 


Senior Alyssa Bakkensen played the entire match in goal, making seven saves along the way. She leads the Northwest Conference with seven saves per game. Sara Thudium picked up her first win of the season in goal for the Bruins in just her second appearance, making one save in the shutout.
 
NEXT
The Bruins improved to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Northwest Conference play while the 'Cats fell to 1-6-1 overall with a 0-4-0 NWC mark.
 
The 'Cats will hit the road again on Wednesday, playing at Pacific at 6 p.m. before returning home to host Puget Sound at noon on Sunday.

LINFIELD COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
All individuals (age 12 and over) entering any athletics venue must provide proof of vaccination along with photo identification. Since all Linfield faculty, staff and students have completed this task in order to be on campus this fall, the Linfield individual must simply show their current Linfield ID.
 
Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times. Participants, including players, coaches, support staff and media on the sidelines, must wear masks throughout the duration of all athletic events, both indoor and outdoor, and during pregame and postgame activities.
